Standalone BH VS Town Shophouse BH

Disadvantages : Standalone BH VS town BH


Standalone BH


1. Always face the owl & predator problem.


2. The time taken for the BH to be ready for operation is longer. The design & construction stage to completion (with OC obtained) will take us 4 to 9 months. This takes us longer pay-back/gestation period before we can really see some income. On the other hand, town BH’s renovation work can be completed and ready for open sound within 2-3 weeks.


3. The construction cost per square foot (exclude land cost) is higher due to I) it is not constructed in mass quantity. II) accessibility problem will incur higher transportation & mobilization costs.


4. Cannot be used for other purpose if the BH fails. You cannot do anything with the building in the middle of nowhere. Most of the BHs do not have OC and it is not fit for people’s staying.


5. Security problem. CCTV & alarm system is not effective to prevent crime due to the remote location. Personal safety is in doubt when the owner goes to BH for checking and bird nest harvesting. It is highly not safe for female to handle and take care of this type of BH.


6. It is not easy to get a loan from bank pertanian or other bank to build a standalone farm, as it is located on agriculture land.



Town BH


1. Public complaints especially noise nuisance (it’s 90% of the complaints) and in-hygienic. It is more difficult to obtain license for BH operation in town area.


2. Constraint in BH design and layout. We cannot construct higher floors. Modification may involve demolition that can jeopardize the building’s structure, if it is not done professionally.


3. Face the risk of being crackdown and raided by the authorities like what occurred in Sarawak.
